What is FLOAT.CAAMP?

FLOAT.CAAMP is FLOAT’s Communiversity Applied Arts Mentor Pilot

The FLOAT.CAAMP program starts 15 April 2024 with a cracking week of orientation activities. Meet the team and get to know the faces and spaces of FLOAT.CAAMP via a full immersion into FLOAT culture and the story so far including: the floating art studio, the Slipway, On Foot, @Iceworks studio, the emerging art precinct, the weavers, the music makers, the artivists, the nature lovers and so much more. The FLOAT community is a rich network of groups and individuals that come together and make magic happen. Now, it’s time for the new generation of creatives to help us write the next chapter.

What to expect:

FLOAT.CAAMP will be an informal and evolving program that facilitates the sharing of knowledge and experience that is relevant to the participants. Participants will shape and design their learning experience based on their own priorities and needs as emerging creative entrepreneurs. FLOAT.CAAMP is an enjoyable immersive, learning experience. There are no assessments or grades. Participants will learn through connecting, doing and being.

FLOAT.CAAMP will be project-based learning that guides participants through the process of collaborating, planning, creating and installing arts-based exhibitions. Experienced artist and curator Lee Nickless will facilitate the program and guide participants to produce installations for the East Gippsland Winter Festival 2024. Last year there were 3000+ visitors to the opening night. What an audience!

FLOAT.CAAMP will host weekly guest artists from a broad array of mediums and platforms will share their knowledge and experience with participants. Our informal conversational and workshop model will give participants the opportunity to connect with these artists and understand how they manage their creative lives and businesses. Participants will learn industry tricks, tools and techniques that help with anything from time and finance management to creative inspiration.

FLOAT.CAAMP will provide one-on-one mentorship pairing for each participant to help them achieve their own creative professional aspirations.

Facilitators will tap into the incredible FLOAT network to connect participants with mentors to guide and assist them on their own creative pathway.

COST: The ten-week facilitated program will cost $500 per participant. There will be a few scholarships available. Please let us know if you would love to be involved, but the cost is prohibitive. The pilot program starts 15 April 2024, so jump in if you are interested. We can’t wait to meet you!

Week 1: Orientation week.

Participants will undertake a series of activities designed to introduce them to the FLOAT community and spaces. Activities will include nature walks, boat trips, gallery and studio visits, enjoying meals together, music and conversation around a fire, engagement with the Slipway and other FLOAT stuff.

Weeks 2-7: Facilitated program with Lee Nickless and guest artists. Three days per week (Tues, Wed, Thurs); 10am -4pm. During these weeks, participants will focus on project development while enjoying guest artists’ conversations and workshops. We’ll be sharing creative work, pairing with mentors, and exploring ideas for generating income including sponsorship, merchandising and events. Lunch and morning tea is provided.

Weeks 8-10: Project completion and installation with Lee Nickless. During the final weeks, participants will continue to engage with guest artists while being guided toward completion and installation of projects, ready for the opening of the Winter Festival on 21 June 2024. Celebrate together!

If you are interested in participating in the inaugural FLOAT.CAAMP, please email float.applied.art@gmail.com and tell us about yourself. We look forward to meeting you!

Cheers from the FLOAT. CAAMP crew!
