“I live in a houseboat now. Admittedly, it’s a temporary arrangement – just for the month of October – but after a few days, I made it feel like home. There are books stacked, worksites spread, clothes strewn about the place.
I’m not expecting guests: to commute here, a visitor must make their way by kayak, cutting across a small inlet of Lake Tyers. The fishers’ jetty isn’t much further than a kick of the footy away, and maybe later someone will come, but for now, I feel blissfully isolated. I’m far away enough from the fishos that that can I risk a skinny-dip, and do so, several times a day – sometimes even backflipping, in my birthday suit, off the deck’s top rail. Simple pleasures.”

SONIC REFLECTIONS
What sound does a memory of a journey carry? Near the end of the Far East Flaneur experience, this activity offers a moment to pause and reflect on the paths walked, moments noticed and feelings that surfaced along the way. Through a short writing exercise participants gather small fragments of their experiences and translate them into simple sounds using voice, breath, body or found objects. Written reflections may remain private, and anything shared may optionally be recorded. These sonic gestures then enter a shared pool of audio from which a soundscape will be improvised.
