15 – 21/22 March, 2026.
A W.I.P. until SUNDAY 15 March.
<PLEASE SEE
FAR EAST FLANEUR PAGE FOR THE SHORT VERSION>

Day 1. SUNDAY 15 MARCH.
Slipway Sheds / Lakes Entrance to Lake Tyers Beach. 8km
9am start

Today we meet at the Slipway Sheds for a coffee + snack start + welcome.
And some introductions if you’re new to the area.
Flaneurs will be a mix of locals, visitors and Feral MBAs. Led by our flaneur experts - Up the Creek - who are mentoring FLOAT as an artist-led social enterprise.
We start at the Slipway - where there’s great Gippsland Jersey coffee on hand.
With a bit of luck, we will be ready to share our Flaneur zine + Flaneur t-shirts and Far East Flaneur badges.
We head east at about 9am, and head for the coast - then on to the Lake Tyers Beach (Waterwheel) Tavern, 8km away.
It’s a fairly easy stroll for those who want to walk with locals, enjoy the coast, stretch their legs.
It’s a beautiful start to the journey.
The walk is mostly via Lake Bunga, past Red Bluff and along the Bass Strait beach  .. stopping to share a bit of fruity morning tea along the way. Arrive at the Lake Tyers Beach Tav in time for (buy-your-own) pizza lunch and an afternoon of chatting.
The Tav can provide a courtesy lift home to 3909 residents – or you should plan to car pool yourself if needed.

FULL-ON FLANEURS (FEF)
For those who are continuing on to experience the rest of the FLANEUR (the FEFs) – we will head to Lake Tyers Beach Camp + Caravan Park to camp in the tents we supply (or you BYO.) These are simple 1-person tents with sleeping bag provided. We have some cabins available if you are happy to pay that price (but we can also hang out at the Tav until it’s late enough to crawl into your tent.)

Flaneurs are welcome to bring their own sleeping bags that can be carried in our FEF mini bus.
All should carry a small back pack / water bottle

SPEND ON US
> Purchase your FEF badge $5
> Buy your locally artist-screenprinted, op-shop sourced FEF t-shirt $20 (artists: Cheri O’Donnell, Amy Allender, Angharad Neal Williams)
> Stay with us @ camp or cabin @ Lake Tyers Caravan Park

DAY 2. MONDAY 16 MARCH
Lake Tyers Beach Tavern to Lake Tyers House (5km walk)
Start any time

Today we wake up at the Lake Tyers Beach Camp and Caravan Park – and make our own self serve breakfasts -- then stroll over to the beach where Bung Yarnda meets the ocean.

Fancier coffee + breakfasts for those that need it can be found across the road at The General (for buy-your-own extras). Opens a 7.30am.

NOW WE HAVE A COUPLE OF OPTIONS ON MONDAY:
OPTION 1.
Our Eco Tourism mentor and tireless birdlife mentor Skipper Pete can take you in his water taxi to visit FLOAT where our current Artist in Residence Bridget Hillebrand will welcome you on board to show you the residency vessel and tell you about her work.

OPTION 2.
Start dawdling to Lake Tyers House along the lake edge.
Let’s talk about this on the day to choose the best option.
We can travel in small walking groups according to which option we choose first.

Arrive at Lake Tyers House any time .. and settle in. Lake Tyers House was built in 1886 as a guest house, attracting nature lovers from far and wide. The owners invite us to share the isolated beauty of this special place.

The afternoon’s artwork is led by Green Studio (Callan + Lindsay). Local Architect / designers / woodworkers. A conversation among us all about making ephemeral homes in wild locations.

Dinner is curated and delivered by Josephine Jakobi and Green Studio. We camp on the lawn alongside the verandah. Erect your own tents. Staying in the Guest House is an option if you’d like to know more about that.

Sarah Carlisle/Venture Out will join us in the evening to camp-over, planning for a kayaking dawn start on Wednesday.

DAY 3. TUESDAY 17 MARCH

Lake Tyers House to Nowa Nowa (kayak + pontoon + water taxi + walk options)

Tuesday dawn departure for kayakers with Venture Out. Sarah Carlisle will provide the gear and lead the paddle.
We may plan for some staggered departures - but we’re all told it’s the dawn start that matters.
We will stop in a few places along the way. Iron Barks, Devil’s Hole and Rules Landing. But knowing that kayaks could be towed home if need be.
The Tav’s Groovy Pontoon and Skipper Pete’s Eco Water Taxi will bring up the rear for anyone who needs a rest, a tow, or a lift en route.
Lunch and snacks en route.
Arrive at Mingling Waters and flop for a bit … for as long as you like.
It’s a gorgeous venue and we have cabins and glamps and BYO tent campsites too. Next job is to allocate them to all the right people.
At this stage we have room for more cabin bookings - eg - for guests who drive from other places to rendezvous with us all for a night of exquisite starry skies, a few words of prose from our favourite story teller - Bert Spinks - and maybe a tune from fellow paddler/poet - Niq Reefman.
Dinner is being created by the equally fabulous Rinaldo Antico @ Gro Wilde. We need your booking soon if you plan to come for dinner. You KNOW you love his style. BYO DRINKS.

DAY 4. WEDNESDAY 18 MARCH

NOWA NOWA TO ORBOST - WITH EVERYONE’S FAVOURITE GEOMORPHOLOGIST - ERIC SJERP

$25 FOR THE RIDE (BYO BIKE) - EXTRA FEES FOR PUSH BIKE OR E-BIKE. YOU CAN BOOK IN FOR A DINNER AT ORBOST. THEN PLAN TO CAMP AT CORRINGLE.

9AM-10AM depart from Mingling Waters.

Travel slowly enough to notice. Join us for a gentle journey along the East Gippsland Rail Trail, riding from Nowa Nowa to Orbost through forests, river country and open skies.

Guided by (coolest, funnest) local scientist, geomorphologist and devoted bike wanderer Eric Sjerp, this ride invites you to experience this changing and unique landscape as we encounter it.

We will move at a conversational pace, stopping often. Expect stories of landforms and waterways, moments to linger, and the quiet pleasure of travelling under your own power.

Along the way we pause for coffee and cake, then gather again for lunch at the Flat Bickie caravan in Newmerella (meal price not included), a small ritual of rest before rolling onward towards Orbost.

Bring your own bike, or hire one through our friends at Snowy River Cycle.
$50 standard bike $100 e-bike

AFTER THE RIDE

From Orbost, you may drift back to Nowa Nowa on the 2:08pm V Line bus, or continue the evening with fellow travellers.

Join us for dinner at the Orbost Rainforest Centre - hosted by the famous Wilderness Coast Artists, then journey (by included bus) to Corringle Slips to camp beside the Snowy Estuary, sleeping beneath wide skies with tents provided.

DAY 8. SUNDAY 22 MARCH.
FAREWELL

Thanks to everyone who has shown so much interest and love and support for this fairly ambitious art + nature journey. Led by community and artists and nature lovers.
Yes - it’s an experiment. An arts pilot. A reccy. But we seriously hope it will become a well-worn path among creative and regenerative folk who like to walk, and find good company and good nature along the way. This trip is full of makers, designers, listeners, and casual observers.

The crew is AMAZING - you will love discovering everyone who has signed up for this adventure.
But definitely an experiment. We hope we’ve got it right. We will be taking loads of photos + audio gatherings. And plan to share them as soon as we’re home. We hope you’ll all help make this Far East Gippsland destination a tiny bit famous.
Oh and all of our 2026 Feral MBA folk will be here too!
