BOX BROWNIE

SOMETHING OUT OF THE BOX

SOME EXTRA INFORMATION FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS

Some people are having difficulty with taking photos with their box brownie.
One of the reasons for this is that the spools which the new film comes on are of a larger end diameter (to suit later type cameras).
It is quite easy using nail clippers to trim the diameter back to level with the roll of film and smooth off with a fine file or sandpaper– not complicated when you look at the new film. The second issue is that the hole in the centre of the spool is larger than the original – so you will need to cut out a circle and drill a small centre hole and glue to the end of the new film roll spool – I used spray on glue (and interestingly only had to do this to one spool end).
The attached instructions come from Bob Manhal in Inverloch.
I followed his instructions and got some good prints (Film Never Die in Watertank Way off Spencer st). Though it did make me realise you need a steady hand or photos are blurry as the shutter speed is slower than more modern film cameras.
I have since found another good film place – Walkens at 338 Brunswick st Fitzroy.
Both places have enthusiastic and knowledgeable youngish staff.
